Until 2012, citrus growing was the main fruit diversification crop for local Guadeloupean markets. The island is now facing a very serious phytosanitary crisis with the emergence of citrus greening or huanglongbing (HLB), a bacterial disease transmitted by an in sect, the Asian psyllid (Diaphorina citri).

GreenRice: Sustainable and environmental friendly rice cultivation systems in Europe
Under the leadership of CIRAD, Italian, Spanish and French research centers developed the GreenRice project, which aims at testing a rice irrigation system (AWD) that alternates between wetting and drying periods to save water and limit greenhouse gas emissions.

This project is in response to a request from a group of farmers in French Guiana, originally from Laos, to be able to grow trees of the genus Aquilaria (native to Southeast Asia) whose oleoresin contained in its wood and molecules contained in its leaves are of high economic value.
